Things that changed 1.69

Post by kaltrip »

People occasionally ask in game if I've changed something in the module. My intention is to keep PoA as much like the one that was run by AW as possible with a few minor tweaks and fixes as documented in this thread.

What I think is confusing some of you is that AW PoA was running on older versions of NWN, pre the 1.69 patch. That patch changed a lot of things that people remember working differently. For the full details you can check out the official patch details. It might help if I mention a few of them here anyway.

The way resistance works against weapons doing multiple damage types has been changed so that the damage resisted reflects the lowest of the resistance values on equipped items. In particular, if you're being hit by a morning star (piercing and bludgeoning damage) and you're only wearing an item that resists piercing damage, then you're going to get hurt. Previous to 1.69 that same item would have protected you by resisting the piercing damage and ignoring the bludgeoning damage.

The spell gust of wind used to disperse all areas of effect including things like blade barriers. With the 1.69 patch it will now only disperse all cloud like area of effect spells. On the bright side, your friendly DM no longer has the option of gusting your cleric's blade barriers just when that would be a really bad thing... 8-)

The hero pots don't work, manifested as the character unable to attack monsters after the transformation. It is highly likely that poly pots don't work either. The same thing happened to Cheet's POA, also a 1-20 level server that was shuttered just before this server came online. It is believed to be a result of the horse script in the 1.69 update.

Thanks for the info Rom and welcome to the forums.

Can anyone else confirm the first problem? I think I saw someone last night use a hero pot when a party of three low to medium levels were taking on Cessie but didn't notice whether they were having the problems you describe. Clearly time for some experiments... ;)

Poly pots I thought were working fine? Again while on as a DM I think I overheard party chat discussing the effectiveness of an iron golem form while they were rampaging through the Umbers. :)

(Been away and done some testing)

I've just tried hero pots out and my character Kal just pwned the beetles whilst under the influence...

I wonder, could it be something in your overrides folder that is causing this behavior? I know that Pixie was having problems with the DBF spell which we tracked down to be an unused override that she had acquired at some point. Maybe retry with your current overrides folder (temporarily) moved out of the way?

I've had the poly problem as well, but for me it usually happens when I use haste pot in conjunction, and once the haste effect wears off my character will stand there ready to attack, but do nothing. Using another haste pot or cancelling polymorph + using new potion usually fixes this for me. Happens with both Tensers and Poly pots. Not really all that game-breaking, but slightly annoying.
